Why does my pet rub his bottom along the floor?

This can often look somewhat comical as your dog or cat assumes a sitting position, lifts its hindlimbs slightly off the ground and shuffles its bottom along the carpet! However this is likely to be a sign that your pet's anal glands are uncomfortable. Take your pet to the vet who will express the anal glands to release the built up secretions inside to give immediate relief to your pet. Be aware that complications such as infections and ruptured anal glands may occur as a result of this condition going untreated.
